Liletta IUD

  • What is it? Liletta is a tiny, T-shaped, soft plastic device that fits in the uterus. It has hormones that stop the sperm and egg from meeting. This can be a great choice if you’re forgetful, on the move, or don’t want to carry around anything.
  • How effective is it? Less than 1 pregnancy per 100 people.
  • How often do I take it? It can last up to 6 years.

Paragard IUD

  • What is it? The Paragard IUD is a small, plastic, T-shaped device wrapped in a copper thread. The copper changes the chemistry inside the uterus, making it hard for sperm and eggs to find each other.
  • How effective is it? Less than 1 pregnancy per 100 people.
  • How often do I take it? It can last up to 10 years.

The Implant

  • What is it? The implant is about the same size as a matchstick. It works by releasing hormones that make it harder for sperm and egg to find each other and survive.
  • How effective is it? Less than 1 pregnancy per 100 people.
  • How often do I take it? It can last up to 3 years.

The Shot

  • What is it? The shot is given to you by a doctor, nurse, or yourself. The shot contains the hormone progestin, which stops your ovaries from releasing eggs and makes it harder for sperm and egg to find each other.
  • How effective is it? About 6 pregnancies per 100 people.
  • How often do I take it? Every 3 months, given by your healthcare provider or yourself.

The Ring

  • What is it? The ring is a small plastic ring that you can bend and looks like a bracelet. Once you put it in your vagina, it releases hormones into your body to stop your ovaries from releasing eggs and makes it harder for sperm and egg to find each other.
  • How effective is it? About 9 pregnancies per 100 people.
  • How often do I take it? Insert once every 3 weeks, then wait a week, and insert another.

The Pill

  • What is it? The pill is a tiny tablet you take once a day. The pill stops the ovaries from releasing eggs and makes it harder for sperm and egg to find each other. The pill must be taken at the same time every day, no matter if you’re sexually active or not.
  • How effective is it? About 8 pregnancies per 100 people based on typical use.
  • How often do I take it? You take it every day at the same time.
